De Veedjee. 24 DIC 2107. Hay libros que son como laberintos. Tienen páginas en las que uno se encuentra perdido, falsos caminos, callejones, senderos en los que te ves obligado a dar la vuelta, sitios por los que pasas dos veces. En ocasiones no sabes muy bien dónde estás… Pero cuando intuyes una salida, cuando aciertas con el itinerario, cuando ves luz al final del túnel, entonces lo disfrutas doblemente. Para mí así son los libros de Vila-Matas. Laberintos en los que a veces te pierdes… Pero con los que gozas muchísimo durante el recorrido. Mac y su contratiempo es el diario que escribe alguien retirado de su trabajo y que está dispuesto a reescribir el libro de un famoso escritor que, además, es su vecino. Ese libro se titulaba Walter y su contratiempo, un ventrílocuo que adopta diversas voces narrativas para cada uno de los cuentos que componen ese libro que Mac quiere reescribir. Me ha gustado mucho esa idea inicial de cómo la vida contamina la ficción de los escritores (Mac lucha para que su diario no se convierta en novela), cómo los hechos cotidianos se cuelan en la imaginación… Y al revés, como, al final, la imaginación, también influye en nuestra vida diaria. “Hay cuentos que se introducen en nuestras vidas y prosiguen su camino confundiéndose con ellas“. El libro se articula en torno a esa búsqueda de voz narrativa (la voz propia del escritor puede condenarle a que se imite a sí mismo) y la idea de la repetición, de que, en realidad, todo en la vida (también en la literatura) es repetición de lo que otros hicieron antes. De ahí esa búsqueda de uno de los personajes por el origen de los cuentos, de la narración oral. ¿Cuál fue la primera historia de ficción que se contó en la historia? El lector habitual de Vila-Matas disfrutará además con las tuberías que conectan este con otros libros suyos (la isla de Pico, Walser, la desaparición…). Y tanta frase genial… Mac y su contratiempo es fresca, sencilla y densa a la vez, y me encanta el hecho de que te lleve a desear leer tantos otros libros que va citando a lo largo de la novela. La realidad, no necesita que nadie la organice en forma de trama, es por sí misma una fascinante e incesante Central creativa. Pero hay días en que la realidad da la espalda a esa Central sin rumbo que es la vida y trata de darle un aire de novela a lo que pasa. «Yo soy uno y muchos y tampoco sé quién soy. No reconozco esta voz, sólo sé que pasé. En el camino uno piensa y a veces tropieza con lo olvidado.»
There are books that are like labyrinths. They have pages in which one finds oneself lost, false roads, alleys, paths in which you are forced to turn around, places you go through twice. Sometimes you do not know very well where you are … But when you intuit an exit, when you guess the itinerary, when you see light at the end of the tunnel, then you enjoy it doubly. For me this is the Vila-Matas books. Labyrinths in which you sometimes get lost … But with those who enjoy a lot during the tour. Mac and his mishap is the newspaper that someone retired from his work writes and is willing to rewrite the book of a famous writer who is also his neighbor. That book was entitled Walter and his mishap, a ventriloquist that adopts different narrative voices for each of the stories that make up that book that Mac wants to rewrite. I really liked that initial idea of how life contaminates the writers’ fiction (Mac struggles so that his diary does not become a novel), how everyday events sneak into the imagination … And vice versa, like, Finally, the imagination also influences our daily life. “There are stories that are introduced into our lives and continue their way confused with them.” The book is articulated around this search for a narrative voice (the author’s own voice can condemn him to imitate himself) and the idea of repetition, that, in fact, everything in life (also in literature) ) is a repetition of what others did before. Hence the search for one of the characters for the origin of the stories, the oral narration. What was the first story of fiction that was told in the story? The habitual reader of Vila-Matas will also enjoy the pipes that connect this with other books of his (the island of Pico, Walser, the disappearance …). And so great phrase … Mac and its mishap is fresh, simple and dense at the same time, and I love the fact that it leads you to want to read so many other books that are quoted throughout the novel. Beware Mac ain’t an Apple gadget. The reality, does not need that nobody organizes it in the form of plot, is by itself a fascinating and incessant Creative Central. But there are days when reality turns its back on that Central without direction that is life and tries to give an air of novel to what happens. Nothing ever happens. I’m one and many and I do not know who I’m either. I don’t recognize this voice, I only know what happened. On the way one thinks and sometimes stumbles on the forgotten.
